Liked the traditional 3 column, 2 menu on left, news in middle, 2 menu on right. And with main image (image can be easily replace) for full page, but where like where news is, its transparent. Here is one I have now. It is using OS Ticket (CMS). But happy to use e107 as the core if it looks HD friendly.
